Susan Sutton Trio About MP3 Audio Clips

Next to some of the songs listed on this web site, you'll see small icons. Linked to these icons are cd-quality audio clips of the songs.

To hear the music, you'll first need to download and install a suitable MP3 player, if you don't already have one (instructions below). Then, simply click on the icon next to the song you want to hear. Follow these steps to configure your system to play MP3 files - it's easy, and you'll only have to do it once.

To configure an MP3 player:

1. Start by downloading a program that can play MP3 (mpeg audio layer 3) files. We recommend WinAmp for Windows 95 users, and MacAmp for Macintosh users. This program is free, and quite good.

2. Next, install the software on your computer. Read the readme.txt file included in the archive for details.

3. The last step is to configure your browser to play the clips. (To find out which version of your web browser you have, go to the Creative Element Browser Test.)

3a. For Netscape Navigator 4.0, select Preferences from the Edit menu, and then choose Applications from the tree. Find MPEG Audio in the list, click Edit, and choose Application. Next, turn off the Ask me before opening downloaded files of this type option. Then, click Browse, and locate your installed version of WinAmp, and then click Ok.

If MPEG Audio is not in the list, click New Type, and fill out the fields as follows: "mpeg audio" for the first, "MP3 M3U" for the second, and "audio/x-mpeg" for the third. Then, click Browse, and locate your installed version of WinAmp, and then click Ok.

3b. For Internet Explorer 4.0, Microsoft's silly ActiveMovie player will interfere with MP3 files. You're best bet is to right-click on any MP3 links you want to play, select Save Target As..., change the folder to your desktop, and click Ok. Then, double-click on the file icon on your desktop to hear the music.

To play an audio clip:

Click on the audio

icon next to the song you want to hear. Your web browser will then download a very small file, and open WinAmp. You may have to press Play at this point. WinAmp will then begin playing the music as soon as it can establish a connection to our web site. The faster your connection, the better the quality of music.

If you have a slow connection, you might want to download the songs before playing them. This way, you'll get the best possible quality, and you'll be able to play them again and again. Right click on any of the following links and select Save to store the files on your hard disk rather than playing them automatically.
